When to Use Ontology vs. Text-to-SQL

Use Ontology When:
  • You have metrics you calculate repeatedly (revenue, conversion rate, etc.)
  • You need consistency across your team
  • You have complex data relationships
  • You want faster query performance
Use Text-to-SQL When:
  • You’re doing one-off exploratory analysis
  • You’re asking questions about data you’ve never queried before
  • You don’t have an ontology built yet
  • You need maximum flexibility
