Getting Started with Ontology Why Use Ontology?
Consistency and Accuracy
Your business logic is encoded once. Everyone in your organization gets the same answer to the same question. No more “which number is right?” or mistakes from misunderstanding calculations.
Speed
Ana doesn’t have to figure out your data from scratch every time. She already knows how everything connects.
Role-Level Security
You can embed role level security into your database. This way you can control who has access to which dataset.
When to Use Ontology vs. Text-to-SQL
Use Ontology When:
You have metrics you calculate repeatedly (revenue, conversion rate, etc.)
You need consistency across your team
You have complex data relationships
You want faster query performance
Use Text-to-SQL When:
You’re doing one-off exploratory analysis
You’re asking questions about data you’ve never queried before
You don’t have an ontology built yet
You need maximum flexibility
Good News: You can use both! If both are toggled on, Ana will switch between them based on your needs.
